A Tajik official has exposed a plot by the pro-Muslim Brotherhood Islamic Renaissance Party (IRPT) of Tajikistan to undermine the country’s economic organizations. Anwar Torayov has said the party’s members are targeting Tajikistan’s economy seeking to undermine electricity facilities and tourist attractions.
He has said the party is trying to destabilize security and the political scene in Tajikistan.
Torayov said the party targeted Rogun power facility, which was opened on November 16, in an failed attempt to distort the nation’s image. He said the new power facility is considered to be a blow to IRPT.
Torayov said IRPT also targeted the nation’s tourist attractions by carrying out terrorist attacks. He added that investigations had revealed that a leader and members of a terrorist group, which carried out an attack on a tourist attraction, were all members of IRPT, despite the fact ISIS claimed responsibility for the operation.
He has made it clear that the Tajik government and people are bravely confronting all terrorist groups, asserting that the Muslim Brotherhood is becoming less popular in Tajikistan.
