The US forces in Afghanistan have carried out an airstrike on Taliban factory which was used to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IED), the local officials said, according to Khaama Press on Tuesday.
The provincial government media office has said in a statement that the airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of Mamozai area of Zurmat district.
The statement further added that the IED manufacturing factory was destroyed and two militants were killed during the air raid.
Hundreds of kilograms of explosives, equipment, and spares used in landmines were destroyed during the airstrike, the provincial government added.
Taliban and other militants often use IED as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces, but in majority of such attacks ordinary civilians are targeted.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in its latest report stated that 1,692 civilians were killed in the first six months of 2018.
According to UNAMA, the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in attacks by anti-government elements remained the leading cause of civilian casualties.
