Turkey, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood are joining hands to implement a destructive agenda in Tunisia.
The three have formed an axis to use the North African state in serving their own interests.
However, the coming to power in Tunisia by Kais Saeed has become a problematic issue for them. Ordinary Tunisians are also angry at interference by Ennahda Movement, the branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in Tunisia, in Libya’s affairs.
This is why Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad use all tools to control Tunisia. This is especially true with Tunisia being important for Libya’s security. It is also important for the implementation of Erdoğan’s regional ambitions.
The militia’s Erdoğan backs in Libya have run into one defeat after another. This is why the Turkish president tries to compensate his losses by exploiting Tunisian territories. He wants to use Tunisia in delivering supplies to the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord.
However, Saeed is hampering the implementation of Erdoğan’s plans. This is especially so after the Tunisian president belied statements by Erdoğan that his country had joined a Turkey-led coalition in Libya.
He said in December of last year that Tunisia would not allow anybody to use its territories in implementing any plans in neighboring countries.
This showed the difficulties Erdoğan is facing in moving ahead with fulfilling his ambitions in Libya. Tunisia’s Muslim Brotherhood is also incapable of offering any assistance in this regard.
