Member of the Egyptian parliament and director of the Center for Middle East Studies in Paris (CEMO), Abdel Rahim Ali, denounced Wednesday approval by the Turkish parliament of a motion that allows Turkey to send troops to Libya.
“This move by the crazy sultan of terror, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will have dire consequences for North Africa,” Ali said.
He added in a statement that the international community and NATO should act quickly to stop Erdogan’s political bullying, describing the Turkish president as a “dictator”.
Ali warned against a potential Turkish occupation of Libya, noting that this occupation would negatively affect, not only North Africa, but also Europe.
“This occupation will also open the door for the law of the jungle to reign supreme,” Ali said. “It will legitimize desires by all states to occupy other states so long as their parliaments approve this.”
Ali said the Turkish parliament was not a real legislature, but an entity that acts at the orders of the Turkish president.
Legitimate Libyan institutions, including the Libyan National Army under the command of Gen. Khalifa Haftar, Ali said, are capable of countering the terrorists Erdogan will send to Libya.
“They will turn Libya into a major graveyard for the Turkish occupiers,” Ali said.
He said Erdogan would be committing a cowardly act of terrorism by sending troops and mercenaries to Libya where they would kill the Libyan people and steal its wealth.
