Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, paid a visit to Doha, Qatar, Feb. 21, as his country’s people waited for the results of the eighth round of nuclear negotiations Vienna.
The negotiations aimed to revive Iran’s nuclear deal with the West.
The Iranians waited eagerly for the negotiations to open the door for the lifting of US sanctions on their country.
The sanctions caused Iran’s economy and the living conditions of its people marked deterioration over the years.
Noticeable during President Raisi’s visit to Doha was the way Iranian media approached it.
Most news outlets in the Islamic Republic said the Iranian president was in Qatar to discuss the nuclear agreement.
They added that Tehran wants Doha to play the mediator in the Vienna negotiations.
The Iranian newspaper, Jahan-e Sanat, said Doha sought to play the role of mediator in the nuclear negotiations by conducting negotiations with Tehran on behalf of Washington on the remaining points of contention between Iran and the US.
Newspapers affiliated with the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard Corpse praised the visit of the Iranian president and Qatar’s reception of Raisi.
They said this was the first visit by the Iranian president to Doha since he assumed the presidency in August 2021.
It is also the first visit by an Iranian president to Qatar in 11 years, the newspapers said.
They reported the signing of 14 cooperation agreements between the two sides during the visit.
Message to Washington
It should be noted that Raisi sent a message to Washington during his press conference with Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad.
He said the US had to demonstrate its will to lift the main sanctions on Iran and provide a reliable guarantee for the lifting of those sanctions.
He also called on regional states to resolve aggravating regional crises through dialogue,
This prompted the Emir of Qatar to say that his country hopes to reach an agreement that satisfies all parties.
